ThaiExpress as its name suggests, is about Thai food served in double quick time, without compromising on the authenticity and taste that has made it a much loved cuisine the world over. It is about catering to today's fast paced lifestyle where meals are squeezed in between a meeting or deadline. ThaiExpress also breaks away from the traditional Thai style of communal dining by serving items in individual portions for those who may want to dine alone. In place of fine dining, which may be intimidating to some, ThaiExpress is all about being fresh, contemporary and fuss-free. The ambience is casual and cosy with prices that encourage repeat visits, even on the same day. It prides itself in having a menu in which more than half of the items listed are special ThaiExpress creations that are not found anywhere else. These include its Japanese-inspired Popiah Wrap for those who crave a light snack; the Tofu-Mushroom Salad, which is a hit with the ladies; the simple yet delicious Tofu Squares; the ever-popular Thai fried squid; the tasty Thai Mee Sua; and its very own unique Curried Soft Shell Crab. ThaiExpress is also one of the few Thai restaurants to offer a selection of Thai Laksa. Diners can choose from a selection of eight different Thai Laksa, including its very popular Nam Phrik Laksa and Green Seafood Laksa, a la ThaiExpress style. The Nam Phrik Laksa uses fine rice vermicelli, which is then bathed in mouth-watering gravy that gets its full-bodied flavour from a combination of spices, chopped nuts and dried shrimps. The Green Seafood Laska uses thick rice vermicelli and is served smothered in a green rich and spicy coconut gravy. Besides its innovative one-of-a-kind items, ThaiExpress offers many of the dishes that have become almost standard offerings in most Thai restaurants, such as Tom Yam, Mango Salad, Pineapple Rice, Phat Thai and curries. Its dessert menu offers popular Thai desserts like fresh Mango with Glutinous Rice, Thai Red Rubies, Steamed Tapioca, along with its own house specials like the ThaiExpress Red Bean Dessert with homemade red bean paste and Thai Banana Fritters with coconut ice-cream. Even its beverage menu carries on its theme of being innovative and fresh. These include Red Bean Milkshake, Avocado Milkshake and Chiang Mai Mango Blend. ThaiExpress is owned by Onyx Concept Restaurant Pte Ltd. Its first outlet at Holland Village has already proven to be a hit. Behind the many delectable creations at ThaiExpress is Thai Consultant Chef Suwakhon Wangsai. She has 25 years' experience as a Chef and has worked in countries like Germany and Australia. Local directors of Onyx, Ivan Lee and Grace Goh, also own another café at Siglap called ONYX Urban Kitchen Café which has been in operation for two years.
